Learning how to live a life well crafted.
I’ve always heard people say (in various forms of the phrase): you need to be great at one thing instead of good at a lot of things. While I understand the sentiment, that is not how I have chosen to approach the creative aspects of my life.
I have developed many interests over the years. My love of fiber arts began when I was 15 and had started my very first after-school job. My supervisor there knew how to crochet. I mentioned to her one day that I would like to learn, and she gifted me with a beginners how-to book, crochet hooks, and some yarn. After that I was, literally, hooked.
That was half of my life ago (I just turned 30 this year). And while I would now consider myself quite an expert on crocheting, it is definitely not my only interest. I have always loved to learn new things and pursue a variety of creative outlets. In this blog, I will be highlighting some arts that I already know a lot about (primarily crocheting, sewing, and cross-stitching) as well as documenting my learning process on new pursuits such as watercoloring, stained glass, and clay arts (and whatever other creative interests strike my fancy).
This blog is not intended to be a how-to guide on any of the arts that I will be exploring. Instead, I hope that this journey will bring inspiration to you to maybe learn a new hobby or revive a creative side of you that has maybe been buried in the busyness of life.
Adding to the creative inspiration, it is also my intention to document two other passions in my life: traveling and antiques. My husband and I both share a love of traveling, hiking, and finding treasures at antique stores, so I want to share those loves with you as well.
As I’m sure you can already see, I have fully chosen to embrace being good at a lot of things instead of being great at just one thing. While that is certainly not everyone’s journey, I hope that one of my variety of interests sparks inspiration in you.
Happy reading, happy crafting, and happy trails
